so im looking into a first gen rx7 , i have a ported 12a that will be going into it so engine is of no concern in the purchase . Is there anything rx7 problems i should be on the lookout for before purchasing .

If you aren't concerned with the engine, then the rest of the car is fairly standard mechanically so the typical inspections when purchasing a used car come into play.

A few things come to mind though..Make sure the transmission shifts into 5th smoothly and doesn't whine.

Check the frame rail around the steering idler arm for rust. 90% chance you'll find damage.

Check the rear wheel wells for rust as they are almost always damaged, as well as the suspension arm mounts in that area.

Oil coolers tend to crack and leak around the fittings.

Beyond that it's just a car. Check the brakes, electrical, etc. as you would any other vehicle.
