Question Brakes/Clutch/BOV

HI folks I am new to the rotaory seen but an experienced mechanic. I know that things you buy is as good as the money you spend on them but also know that you don't need to spend top dollar to get good parts. so i have some questions for you.

Does it matter the typ of BOV you get? I have heard that if you get one that releases too much air it could mess up your turbos? I was also told a $50 BOV is really the same as a $300 you just get a better name and look?

I was recently looking on ebay and found some very nice stage 1,2 and 3 clutch plates what is the main difference and for everyday driving is stage 1 the best to go with. Also i read the come with no balancer do i need to get one? I ave also seen full clutch assmbly on there as well is it best just to use new clutch plate r get the whole kit?

Brakes i am running stock breaks and rotors and was looking to upgrade them. i have been reading and read alot of comments the slotted/drilled have a tendancy to crack. For normal street driving does this apply and if so what is your opinion for a cheap upgrade. What brake shoes are a good replacement? There are so many kinds out there that i am getting lost just looking and the range any where from $30-$150 for a set. paying $70 for a set of good shoes would not bother me since i would be relying on them daily.

Last and a bit more technical recently we had a snow storm and i got up drove my 92 FD to work about 10 minutes away as the snow got worse it got colder and 12 hours later when i went to go home my car would not start. Crank it for a bit and it would sound as if it really was about to start and then drop back down to just turning over. No clicking but always turning so not the starter.

I pulled the fuel line off the fuel pump in the trunk (since i am not really sure where the fuel lines run in on the engine) so i could see if it was getting gas and fuel came right out. My thought fuel pump is working. Also when finished cranking i can really smell the fuel from the exhaust.

Replaced the ignition ASSY with another that i know worked, the EGI relay, the Fuel pump fuse also the checked all related fuses under the dash. Same thing.

now with all this being done it was not straight done in 30 minutes it was done over 5 days so i could let exess fuel evaperate in case the engine some how got flooded. (it would all evaperate right or since this is a rotory would it stay in there)

I have ordered new plugs to replace next and was wondering your thoughts. The last thing i was thinking is that the coil packs went bad but have not sone a spark test yet going today to do that.

Any advice would be graetly appreciated.

Bob

Your car comes stock with a bypass valve. Installing an open vented BOV is just a noise maker. No, you won't damage the turbos. Cheap BOVs are just made poorly.

You don't need to upgrade the clutch if the car is stock or mildly modified. Stock clutch is fine, and is best for drivability.

You don't need to upgrade the brakes unless you heavily track the car and find the stock brakes are failing. The stock brakes on the FD are VERY good.

The car flooded. Check compression, and have the injectors professionally serviced.

Aaron,

Thanks for all the advice and if you have just a couple more moments to spare.
I am purchasing a FMIC kit with full piping to install what would be a good upgrade to do next? Also the reason i am changing the clutch is that i am doing a motor swap from a 92 to a 96 and since the clutch has 90K on it figured might as well since the motor is out and it would just be easier. The car is all stock so i am doing some things here and there to increase performance. Again thanks for all the advice.

Cooling is the most important thing to address. The stock FD cooling system is undersized. A good aftermarket rad and aluminum AST are important. As for the intercooler, someone who is more familiar with the FD aftermarket will need to address that. I always do custom stuff, not off the shelf.

Ok so i got the car running thnk you very much Aaron. I did the defludding let it sit for an hour and then it fired right up.

I am in the process of purchasing a FMIC and radiator so the stock one will go. As far as the fuel system goes i see alot of people say they go up to the 1600 fuel injectors do you recomend that with most other parts being stack and yes i will replace the fuel pump at the same time i replace the injectors. Additionally what specifically did you mean by the cooling system? Again thanks for all the advice that you have given me this forum is awesome and so are the people.
