Bought my RX7 sight unseen. Here are my irons and housings.

Hey guys, i've been a lurker for a long time. I recently bought a clean title '87 FC GXL NA, full burgundy interior (still on the fence about that lol), full S5 exterior conversion (except the mirrors cause personally those dont look good) but the catch is the engine was shot. Previous owner said it ran great then there was plumes of white smoke and its been sitting in his garage since last year.
I took apart the engine and found a crushed side oil seal spring. The thing was literally folded over itself underneath the oil seal. I have no idea how that couldve happend and any thoughts would definitely be a help.
Anyway, the rotor housings look average for a high mileage RX7. Heres a pic. Definitely worn and tired.
And here are the irons. In your opinion, would I be able to resurface these? The front iron has one hairline scratch that I can feel with my nail. See images below.

This engine looks a hell of a lot better than the one I pulled apart recently. That nick doesn't look that bad to me.
There's a call out for measuring the step wear on the plates. Catching with your fingernail in general indicates its high enough to be over the tolerance, but you can find the rebuild guide here: Foxed.ca - Mazda RX-7 Manuals
Look for the "rotary engine overhaul criteria for replacement of parts", about halfway down the page.

in my opinion, that nick in the water jacket will not affect sealing. you should be good as long as the side housings check out in every other way. for the rotor housings, they should be good for another go-round as long as there no spots where they are gouged or have step wear. if you want to really get them true, Goopy offers a service to resurface them (there may be others, too, i don't know). i've have a set done and, for what it's worth, i was impressed and satisfied. they look like new.
