Block off plates.

I was looking around banzai racing and I stumbled upon some block off plates. What are the pros and cons of using these?

If you live in a state where you don't need emissions you can remove it all and use blockoff plates to seal everything up.

The plus is a cleaner engine bay and maybe 1-2 hp by removing a bunch of stuff. The downside is the car becomes a bit more finicky.

Bottom Line, You have a working car. Now go drive and enjoy it. Worry about blocking off stuff if something breaks or if you are doing a rebuild.

Well the reason I ask is I will have the car down putting my new stuff on it if all pending buys happen. Corksport full exhaust, "New to me" used TII trans, ACT Lightweight flywheel, and some other stuff. You don't think it would be a good idea to put these on while the car is undergoing work?

The OMP in my 89 vert stopped working, so I'm going to start using premix and I'm thinking about getting the OMP block off kit from Bonzai.

OMP failure on a 89-91 will cause the engine to run in limp mode. The only work arounds available would be an Rtek chipped ECU or full standalone EMS. Premixing and using a block off plate will only address the lack of oil.

As said above, especially on an S5, use only one or the other. If the OMP is working, it likely is working fine. If not, or if you don't trust it, block it off and run straight Pre-Mix.

The usual reason to use block-off plates is to remove all your emissions-related stuff to save weight. Or say, if you're running an aftermarket exhaust that doesn't have a Catalytic Converter, it's pointless to keep your air pump for example, so hence the reason to get rid of it. Same goes for OMP, if you're premixing, you block it off. EGT, etc.
