Blew Coolant line, weird things happening
Hey all,
So last night while driving the coolant line from the bac that runs to upper manifold/tb blew off. I noticed because of a huge cloud of smoke out the rear. By the time I got home (only a minute away thankfully) all the coolant was gone and the car started getting hot, 3/4 way up temp gauge.
Pulled it in the garage, cleaned it up some from all the coolant all over the motor, filled the radiator 50/50.
Now it won't warm up at all. It stays cold. I took it for a 5 minute drive and it still would not warm up. Just barely com off the cold mark.
Could this have made the t-stat stick open? Or is there something else I should be looking at?
Thanks all for any help you may be able to give me. I just got it running right and want to drive it a little before the snow flys but know I shouldn't if it won't warm up.

It's pretty cold in Vermont this time of year I suspect. Give it more time to warm up, like idling for 10-15 minutes. When you are driving the car, cold air is impinging on the radiator requiring longer to warm the coolant/engine.
Problem could be a stuck thermostat, but do the above to see if you really have a problem.

Well its in the 40's in the daytime still working in the unheated garage not too bad so far.
I filled the radiator with cap off running, hot air full on, let run for at least 15 min. then put the cap back on. I took it for a ride, not letting it shut off after this 15 min. warm up, for probably 4-5 miles and was still on cold. Well a little above cold not much though.

Pull the thermostat and see if it is stuck open. If it isn't, plop it in a pan of water on the stove and check the temp of the water when it starts to open and when it is fully open. The specs for that are in the factory service manual.

Hi all,
It turns out it was the thermostat. I took it out and when I went to take it out, it sprung right out, like shot out. Stuck open it looks like. Replaced with a 180 degree t-stat, took for a good ride, warmed up nicely and stayed where it should. Had an aftermarket 195 degree in there.
Weird how it was just fine until that line came off the manifold.
