beauty removed from storage after 19 years!
Just pulled out the wifes 1981, its been sitting for 19yrs. Amazingly its like the day I tucked it away. Dropped and replaced the oil and filter, emptied the tank of 19yr old fuel, pulled the plugs and put abit of oil in each chamber and replaced the cleaned plugs. Turned it over and I have compression.I want to get it running before I go any further.
Now what?
Now what?

stupid me , a tinfoil ball 19yrs ago would have saved me having to remove the muffler now.
Now that i know it runs, SHOULD i BUY STOCK OR REPLACEMENT PART? eg. clutch slave and master and so on.

if i were you i would do a complete overhaul..100% new hoses, new spark plugs and spark plug wires, new air filter, new oil filter and oil, replace the brake fluid, new gas, new master and slave, maybe rebuild the brake master, etc... sure thats not all cheap but....its well worth it trust me

that is the plan. Had to see if the engine would turn first. Would you reccommend new masters or rebuilding. I know the slave is gone on the clutch.

Its been awhile since I swore off working on our everyday vehicles (can only wrap so many pop cans around exhaust pipes or replace starters in 2 ft of snow), but this one is for fun. I am really excited about this!

Don't forget your rubber fuel lines and brake lines to the caliper. You don't want those exploding because they have been sitting for 19 years.
By the way, why 19years? Was this thing fermenting or what?
Also as far as the clutch master and slave, just get a new one or a good quality remanufactured. It will save you the time and headache in case the rebuild fails (which happens).

thanks for the advice, please keep it coming.
WHY? The first child arrived 19 yrs ago, and 2 seats were not enough. It is that simple, we had a place to store it so we did!

Float needles are stuck. Try banging on the top of the carb with a plastic hammer, or something else that won't damage it. That will sometimes shake them loose.
Lots of good reading on the carb for you www.sterlingmetalworks.com
