Battery with no alternator?

So my engine bay was in a state of disassembly when purchased and the battery and alternator are removed. I wanted to start checking that my windows/ radio/ etc work.

If i hook up just my battery and not the alternator will these work in theory? or does the power pass through the alternator and associated wiring? FC Turbo ii

I would hook up the alternator for now just to play it safe. I would assume that the alternator is essential for running the cars system including the windows, radio, etc.

Yep just make sure you cover up the large power wire going to the alternator so it doesn't ground to anything.

You can run a whole car without an alternator (assuming the belt that should be routed to the alternator is correctly tensioned) for a few minutes.

It's a horrible idea if you don't like destroying car batteries, but I've limped a car to a shop this way before. Got maybe 5 minutes before the lights started to dim, probably had 10 minutes before the car would have died!

Sorry you are misinterpreting, The alternator isnt even in the car, i was referring more to if the power route goes through the alternator or not to the rest of car.Was wanting to test the electronics of a car where engine is practically gone.

No worries man, I realized -- was just commenting on that as an aside.

Hope everything you tested worked!
