battery draining

Hello all

I have an 87 NA. RB full dual streetable exhaust, Pineapple aux port inserts, custom cold air intake, aftermarket stereo and custom door speakers. thats the list of my mods. So now to get to the problem. My battery drains if my car sits for more than a week and i have to get a jump of charge it. The battery is new and I've only had a problem with it if i park my car for more than a week. Where should i start looking to solve this problem? and or what could be the cause of it?

welcome to the board.

I would guess it's probably something with your stereo system is staying on, but read this thread and follow Aaron's advice.

And tell us if you have an S4 alternator or S5 alternator as it makes a difference.

When I bought this car it already had an aftermarket stereo in it I changed it to its current stereo over a year and a half ago and haven,t had any troubles with it or the battery. This battery draining problem is a resent one. It started at the beginning of this past winter. I didn't want to drive my baby on these salted Quebec roads so I parked it for the winter, I would go out every week and start it up and let her run for a bit. Thats when I noticed that my battery would be dead when I would go to start it. I eventually just started disconnecting the neg cable. So a week and a half ago I had to park it (clutch went) and I was waiting for parts to be delivered. Parts came on Friday I changed them on Sat and went to go for a test drive but the battery was dead. As for the alternator I can only guess its an S4 as the car is an 87 and when I bought the car it was completely stock a side from the stereo, from what I can tell. Is there a way to tell an S4 from an S5 alternator? So I can check.

So after checking all the fuses I found that the one labelled room is the culprit drawing just under 100 mA with fuse in and 1mA with it out, pulling the other fuses made no difference in the multimeter readings. Unfortunately my Haynes manual isn't any help here, how can I narrow my search down farther?

From BTN fuse
HAZARD: Hazard lights
ANTENNA: Antenna, power lock
ROOM: Clock, stereo, interior lights, alarm, ECU
STOP: Brake lights, horn
ILLUM: Taillights, illumination, HVAC
ABS: ABS system

And you should also disconnect the alternator output wire and see if there is any change in the electrical draw if you have not done so already.

Akashi fox do you mean the battery? If so, no its fine if I disconnect it, but when I parked it bc of the clutch I totally forgot about it. as for the alternator there is no draw from it. After doing some more testing I'm thinking the problem must be in the stereo wiring somewhere. Last summer I did remove it to hook up cables so I could use my Ipod with it. So this weekends project will be to pull the stereo out and go over all the cables and look for a pinched or striped wire, and hopefully I will find it.
Thank you everyone for your help and I will keep you updated.
