bad 7 motor...

Question bad 7 motor...

i have an 88 vert with 194xxx on it and it finally started giving me problems...
i can start and rev it, but it dies after a couple seconds regardless of what i do...
does anybody have any ideas?

I would be checking the TPS and for Vac leaks first and foremost.

Also, check that your AFM connector is fully seated. If the connection looks good, try swappin in a good one or testing the AFM by propping the flapper open, turning the ignition to 'on', and going to the hatch area and listening for your fuel pump. If you hear it pumping, your AFM is working and it's probably a vac leak as suggested above. The AFM may be functional/non-functional depending on how warm/cold it is outside, as was the case with mine. If the problem is intermittent, make sure to test it when it is acting up. Hope this helps.

You can also jumper the yellow test connector at the passenger-side shock tower to get the fuel pump to run.

I would agree that the AFM is a suspect. I swapped in a bad AFM once, and it would startup, then stall immediately. And as mentioned, TPS and big vacuum leaks will do this too.
