Air pump question, hopefully you can shed some light.
I have read many of the air pump questions here trying to figure out whats up with the removal process and whether it's for me or not. I am just trying to clean up my engine bay, I have a 1986 N/A so i am assuming it has 6 ports. From the forums i've read my 5th and 6th ports run off of back pressure from the exhaust. So my question is....If i remove my air pump and use a block off plate, will my ports still work correctly? I dont care about the cats because i have a pacesetter header to test pipe then 2inch pipe back to an open ebay muffler. I want to remove the air pump but dont want to lose upper rpm power. thanks

You can remove the air pump on your car since it is not used to actuate the 5th and 6th ports. You will however have to make sure your exhaust setup provides enough back pressure to actuate the 5th and 6th ports.
If the ports are not working due to low back pressure from your open exhaust then it is best to do what Aaron Cake suggested and use the air pump to actuate then.

how would u hook the air pump to the actuators? threw the split air pipe? to the front hose on the air pump? i just took out my airpump( no idea if it works was never hooked up in my 86 na) but if i can put in my open mufflers and still keep my actuators open that would be awesome.
A 1/4" nipple tapped into output side of the air pump connected via vacuum line to an emissions solenoid (which is controller by an RPM switch), then connected to the feed line for the actuators.
