Air Intake Help

I have heard that the stock air intake is good, but sadly my recent acquisition did not come with it. The intake that it did come with looks rather restrictive and it looks like it is getting hot air to me.

Sorry the picture is a little blurry.

But anyways my question is would I be better off trying to find the stock intake or is their a good aftermarket one?

You can just add a divider (metal, wood, carbon fiber, whatever) to isolate the air filter from the radiator exhaust. Completely sealing and isolating the radiator is best, but it will still work OK if there are some gaps.

Ok, so you don't think that is too restrictive then?

The filter element does look on the small side, but since it is open all the way around, it probably has enough open surface area to be effective.

If this is an N/A engine, the filter looks plenty big to me.

If it is restrictive, it will only affect the engine performance at higher rpms. You can test this by making a few runs on the dyno or drag strip, and then see if there is any improvement with the filter removed. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it.

If you are concerned about the size, you can just order a larger one based on the dimensions available in your engine bay. If the filter is too big, it will not hurt performance, and it will take longer to get dirty.

The word "restrictive" is relative. The factory air box is fine up to about 200bhp or so. The filter in the factory air box is plenty big, but the box and plumbing is not so great because it is designed for noise suppression and resistance to the elements.
