aftermarket temp gauge

So i have a Type R aftermarket coolant temp gauge and im trying to figure why its never worked. Previous owner had a nightmare of wires. Is there a 2nd aux port i can screw in my sensor at? Did a few searches but didn't come up with any other than the stock port on the rear drivers side housing

Thanks

If you still have the throttle-body coolant line, you can put a simple 'T' fitting in it. Simple, accurate and it will give you readings as the car warms up and not just after the t-stat opens like other locations. No drilling, tapping.
Here's a thread with more details: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...highlight=temp I think it's post #36 that has a list of fittings that cost ~$5 from the hardware store. I ran mine in that line just off the throttle-body for a few years. When I rebuilt a few years ago I bypassed the throttle-body but kept the line for the sensor by just looping it from behind the waterpump housing to the rear iron (see below)....I guess you could do the same if the PO has already bypassed the throtttle-body.

A diagram of the cooling system. If you still have the stock t-body coolant line, you'd be putting your sensor in the section of rubber line labled "from motor to TB" which you can reach easily:

FWIW.....if you haven't found it yet, circled in the picture is a single factory spade connector for switched 12v to supply the gauge. For the gauge lighting I just tapped the wire leading to the ash-tray light. You can access that easy enough by carefully lifting off the shifter panel. And that way can also adjust brightness with the rest of the dash.

When i put my uim and nest back together i just went from my t-stat housing straight to the back of the motor. ill see about getting those connections to get my temp from there. and i didn't know about that location. everything was already ran but the temp gauge didn't work. Most likely ill go about re-doing all the wire in the pillar and run it off that 12v ground so it doesn't keep blinding my face at night.
