Aftermarket stereo .. mounting kits?
Hey all
Alright so a buddy of mine just gave me a pioneer mp3 head unit. I was currently rocking the sweet kenwood tape deck that came in the rx when i bought it. So i pulled it out and started rewiring everyhing which was an absolute mess. Everything is clean and rewired and ready for install. Here is where i run into issues cause i guess for some reason i was thinking i will jsut get a mounting kit and throw it in no problem(or it might just fit) not thinking that it was a tape deck.
Do they make a after market mounting kit that has the spot for the defrost and headlight switch???
I dont really want to modify the original but will if i have to and that is basically what im thinking is my only option. I cant find any mounting kits that are not universal.
any advice? or should i jsut modify the original and any advice in that area?
thx

i just love it when ppl come on here asking questions bout something and don't even bother telling what vehicle they're working on, assuming we all drive the exact same thing. all kits r universal. u can check crutchfield.com and see what u can get from them. but chances r u'll have to work with what u have. since the kenwood is a tape deck, i'm guessing it has the shafts for volume and tuning? if so then u will have to cut out a long rectangle hold to mount the cd player into. did u get the metal mounting sleeve with the pioneer?

sorry guys i thought it was in my signiture, my bad ... yeah 1983 rx7 s and i already got the the thing cut to fit. but not the mounting sleeve still to tight. im affraid if i cut any further it will compromise the structural integrity. I was planning on making a bracket to hold the deck in, and just forget the sleeve.
also it appears that i have no pwr antenna wire, i was curious if it worked like the control wire for a amp and if i could just wire it up with that? there was no way i could use a wiring harness as this was rigged up.

really can't help with power ant as i've never had one. u can get by without the sleeve but u will still need to support the rear of the deck. there should be a threaded stud on the rear of the deck for hanging by the strap that normally comes with them. it tells on there what the thread size is, i think it's like 6mm. piece of coat hanger works well for this.
