Add Coolant light on

I have a 1990 rx7 tII and the add coolant light is on. I replace the thermostat and still lights up. How many gallon of coolant does it hold? i put about 1 and 1/4 gallon and its seems full already. HELp?

Use a Haynes manual or the factory service manual (FSM) to bleed air out of the system while adding coolant. There is a plastic screw on the radiator, next to the airbox, that should be slightly opened to allow air to escape. Add coolant until it starts to drip out past the screw, then tighten it down and top off the filler neck. You can also run the engine (when cold only!) and turn the heater on to eliminate air in the heater core. Leave the radiator cap off when doing this, check for bubbles, then replace.

If that doesn't do it, check out the coolant level sender on top of the radiator. Make sure the wire is plugged into it, and that there is no where that the wire is grounding out against the chassis.

If the wire was grounded on the chassis that light wouldn't be on. The add coolant light comes on when the sensor or the wire isn't grounded. (Coolant acts like a ground) If there is enough coolant . Check the wire for breakage. And make sure there is enought coolant in the system.

Correct. I said it backwards. Disconnected triggers the buzzer/light, and connected (grounded through coolant) keeps the buzzer/light off.
