91 FC RX7 Convertible T2 rebuild questions

i Just recently acquired a convertible FC with a turbo 13b that I'm sure needs a rebuild. I cant get it to start but I did compression test it. I got 75 PSI in the first rotor and no compression at all in the second. I plan on rebuilding it and i want to know what i can expect from it when i take the engine apart.

it will be the first time i take an engine out and apart by myself. I've helped take a transmissions apart and an engine once but this will be the first time I attempt something like this on my own.

I know a little bit about rotaries and i have a friend who is a little more knowledgeable about rotaries than I am. How much should would a good rebuild kit cost and what commons problems usually happen during rebuilds?

No problems during rebuilds, possibly the most annoying part is if the end float is out of spec and you have to change the spacer but that's about it. So long as you do it properly you should be fine. Also you might have damaged components that need replacing like rotor/housing/iron etc.

If your doing it yourself grab a DVDs, there's some great ones out there that show the process. Also I believe they have the full DIY RE video on YouTube.

With regards to rebuild kits they will vary on what your building the motor for. Reliability wise use viton seals, one piece corner seals. I like using Atkins rotary kits, very good and the guys there know a lot and will be able to guide you

you can buy the kit engine apart or not, but you will need to open it up to see if you need to replace any of the other components like the rotor/housing/iron etc. If it's your first time just be methodical.....keep taking pics at each stage so you can refer back to them when assembling. Be clean, have the right tools before you start and store nuts and bolts methodically. These engines are very easy do build once you have done a few but it's simple things like misplacing parts that can screw you over.

Buy your rebuild kit, open up the engine....if all components are good, great! You can rebuild it, if they need replacing....well you still need the kit anyway so it doesn't matter how you go about it.

you'll need a 2-1/8 or 54 mm socket for the flywheel to get it off.

Look at Youtube and look up AARON CAKE.He is one of the more popular guys on here and has a way with rotary enginesHe has some rebuold videos and also a good tech site called Aaron's Homepage.
He also reminds me of that guy that says "I can't believe it's not Butter"..hahhahahaha!
