88 Turbo II Dying out issue!!

Hey guys. So i have a 88 S4 turboII. The car was driving just fine and then all of the sudden if I shift in to 5th gear the car dies... like when the car runs out of gas or the fuel pump goes out.... but it will still drive in all of the other gears, eventually 4th gear dies too.

Here is the weird part. if i let the car sit for a while the car will cranck. but if I try to start the car as soon as it dies the car feels like the battery its bad, and it wont start!

so I charged the battery and started the car. disconnected the possitive end of the battery and the car dies which tells me that the alternator its bad or its not charging the Battery.

So... I replaced the Alternator for another used one. and the car ran for a little bit and then the same result!!!

so if anyone knows what in the hell is wrong with my car please help me!!

Does the voltage drop when the car dies out? Connect up a meter and then go for a test drive.

Perhaps the fuel system is clogged? Check the fuel pump pickup sock.

Are there any other symptoms? Does the car run roughly before it cuts out? Any other information you can supply?

The voltage does die out. Because right after it dies I try to crank it and, and it feels like the battery is nearly dead. To the point it won't turn over anymore.

Also the car does run rough I have to go on w.o.t in order to keep it running otherwise it just cuts off.....eventually it does cuts off.

Then you need to confirm that the alternator is charging.

Is the B wire damaged at all? Main fuse damaged? Two pin connector plugged into the back?

Did you plug in the connector at the back of the alternator when you changed it out?
