Question '88 TII Project Car

I'm currently working on getting an '88 TII functional. When i bought it, the owner had the motor trans and ecu sold so he could do a V8 swap. Now I bought a parts car, an 87 base model w/ 5 speed to get moving on the project. The car came with an S4 motor, trans, and ecu. It also came with an S5 N/A motor... or so I think, I need to identify whether or not the motor actually is an S5, it had 190k on it which i would think is reasonable for it to be an S5, i just need some way of determining this before i buy a rebuild kit and sink all my money into it. I plan on getting some forced induction by means of a turbo at some point in time and think that an S5 with it's newer tech would be better to use as my platform. If anyone has any idea on how i can identify this let me know i believe the engine Serial number is E 056751, if that means anything to anybody let me know.

Thanks in advance, Mitch.

welcome to the board.

the simplest thing i can think of is to measure the distance between leading and trailing spark plug holes.
