88 starts then dies at start up
i just brought home a 88 13b would not start at all untill i replaced th fuel pump after a few min of cranking it started up and reved to about 2 grand then shut off. i can not keep the car started it cranks over revs to 2k then dies does anyone know what my problem could be.
i just got my seven from a friend who let it sit for 2 years. Change your spark plugs and wires if you haven't already. earlier today was the first time the car was started and we both knew that on his seven it stumbles and blows white smoke for the first crank and then it drives real crappy for the next day or two, after driving hard on it it wakes up and acts like it never sat and pures like a kitten. It happened to me when i let my boy see the car and i was like "it drives good at open throttle but the the idle is real crapy". As if i had offended my car it never droped below 700 rpm and i could stop the car without reving the gas on the way home. Every drive since start up electrical devices that i thought were dead have come back full strength one at a time and the car keeps getting stronger.
well i dont know what i did but i started pulling sensers out and cranking gave up on it thouhgt id give it another shot a hour later and it started right up and stayed started it does need new plugs and wires it idles real rough
more than likely your plugs are fouled up and you rotors have crap on them. Make the car warm up by hitting the gas a little then drive it around your neighborhood. What your going through is ony one day behind me, i just got the car thursday and got it running better through driving it and went through all the things your going through. After or before your first drive change the oil and you'll see what your engine has been bathing in

First off, if you get it running long enough to warm it up, adjust your throttle position sensor. FC3Spro.com has a great writeup.
1. Can you keep it running or at least make it run longer by playing with the throttle after starting? If so, sounds like a vacuum leak. Check your connections and lines on the intake system.
2. If it always shuts off no matter what you do, sounds like an AFM issue. It could be disconnected or the unit can be faulty. Mine actually only failed when air temps were cold and worked when it got warmer. Check the connector to the AFM behind the airbox.
To test the AFM functionality, prop the flapper of the afm open, turn the key to 'on', go to the back of the car and listen for the fuel pump. If you hear it, the AFM is working properly.
Just some ideas to get ya started.
