CO 88 s4 swapped to 89 s5 13b - first things?

Hey everyone!

I'm looking to get an 88fc where the owner swapped to the 89 13b, both na. Listing has it at 120k miles, though I'm not sure if that's chassis or on the swap (I've asked for clarification, haven't heard back yet). The car is ~400 miles from me so it'll be a fun little road trip. My question is what are the first things I should do to make sure it gets home safely (not towing)? I was already planning on checking oil level, coolant level, and tossing some two stroke in there since it has to go 400 miles right off the bat.

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to the board.

Is the seller using the car regularly or has it been sitting for a while? Is it safe to assume you will be driving around local to the seller before setting out on your trip? I mean, as far as driving the car 400 miles is concerned, you look for common sense things - fluids, belts, brakes, tires, lights, wipers, etc. You said it's a car that was swapped, so you will want to look for signs of poor workmanship - improper wire splicing or parts left loose in the engine bay. Unless the car has been sitting for a long time, or anything looks grossly suspect, drive it home then go through it with a fine-toothed comb.
