VT 88 rx-7 will turn over but won't start

i recently purchased a 1988 rx-7 (13b), project car, i am totally new to the rotary world, so know that i may sound like an idiot. that being said. my rx-7 will turn over, but it will not start, i checked the spark plugs and wires and they all look great, i do not know much about this car's history, but i do know that it has been sitting for 2 years or more. i also know that it was regestered and inspected in 2005, one more thing is that the wiring harness is not installed properly, the wires have been cut and re-spliced back together, i do have a new harness that i am installing, but i am unsuer if the car should be able to start with out it.
thanks
geoff

Well, a motor needs.

1. Compression
2. Ignition
3. Fuel

Check them all for proper operation.

Its probably flooded. To de-flood it first making sure your battery has a full charge, take out your spark plugs, then turn the key for about a minute, then put new spark plugs, or at least clean the old ones, reinstall them, and it should start. It could also be other problems, like low compression, no spark or no fuel like farberio said, but I would try what i said, of course first checking if it has spark.

won't start

If its been sitting for 2 years the injector seals are probaly leaking. Can you smell gas when you check the dipstick?

I recently bought an 86 na and it sat 5 years and the same problem. I just drained the gas. Put new gas in and had to change the fuel pump it was seized. After I put in a new used one it fired right up

I just talked to someone today about that, he said if there is white film in your exhaust that means the coolent is getting in there. He also had a whole book filled with pages of information (detailed) that he got somewhere on this site. I myself am gonna start looking for it. I checked here for similar problems. These rotorys are cool, but come with so many differant issues lol.
