An '87's Exhaust System

Hey everyone. I'm still kind of new here but I'd like your guys' advice.

I have an '87 RX-7, non-turbo, that I'm going to be buying a new exhaust for. I'm probably going to start with the headers and replace everything from there and back. So far I have my sights set on the Racing Beat exhaust components. I'm looking to spend around a thousand on the exhaust.

So, did you guys have any suggestions for me? Should I upgrade anything else immediately after I do the exhaust? Or is there a better exhaust system out there for my car that I just haven't seen. Thanks.

Racing beat is pretty good. It will hold up for a long time.

Yeah I've seen a lot of positive feedback about Racing Beat on the forums.

I think I may stick with RB and go with true dual exhaust. I probably won't buy the presilencer they have and instead just run straight exhaust pipe from the headers to the y-pipe. Anyone have a guess as to what the hp increase may be? Or again, any other exhaust ideas?

True duals with no presilencer will be deafening. The hp loss using a presilencer (or 2 in this case) is negligible.

Really? Deafening? Geez.. the real reason I decided to skip the presilencers was to save some cash. Right now my exhaust is crap. The previous owners took out the dual exhaust and just ran a single flexible exhaust pipe from the cat back... It's kind of loud now, but it also has two exhaust leaks. So I figured since I'd be adding two mufflers (which I don't have even one now) and taking out the cat, it'd be a "fair trade" with how loud it'd be.

The addition of headers really increases the noise, and the true dual version means only 1 muffler is working at a time. If you're short on cash, you can go with a standard header, presilencer & cat back. I really haven't seen anything that shows a better power gain when using true duals anyway. Stock port NA engines just don't produce enough power to need it to be that open.

Whatever you go with, you also need to be sure you have a pickup for the auxilliary port actuation. The RB presilencer has one, but many other cat replacement pipes will not.

Alright. Well thank you for the input. I guess I just like the idea of having a true dual exhaust system. Just more my preference than anything else. I do want to get it right the first time though. Maybe I'll still consider that presilencer.
