So at the moment I just bought a 87 RX7 and it is currently in need of an inspection soon.

The previous owner put on a no cat exhaust.

Will the car pass inspection since it is 25 years old? Or will I need to put the old cat back on in order for it to pass. He still has the old exhaust and cat as well mind you.

I live in North Carolina. Anyone else down in the Fayetville area know of any friendly mechanics as well?

 

i live there a while back and i do know that NC is one of the STRICTest places for inspections so i would put the cats back on and hope they pass it thats your best bet

 

The cat will defiantly need to be on, it also depends if there doing emissions or inspections. If you bought the car the from the guy in NC, and he was legally driving it, then you should be good, cuz that means its already passed, I lived in WV for a while and they would allow you to have it checked out to tell you wither or not it's even going to pass, but i don’t know, that could have just been the guy i knew.

 

WEll the good news is I dont have to get an inspection for another year apparently

I went to the DMV with his older (but still valid) inspection. They didnt even look at it and she cleared it right on by. She must have been new and didnt ask for the inspection . Oh well $115 later im driving my RX7
