OR '84 gsl se 5 speed tranny value in being sold or held on to

I am close to buying an '84 gsl se 5speed w/ 125k on original engine. The seller is selling a tranny (used i think) with it that he got from the previous owner. The previous owner supposedly bought it thinking parts were hard to come by and wanted to have it with the car. Any way, both the car and the tranny might find its way into my garage by this weekend and I would like to know if i should hang on to this thing or try and sell it.
Thanks.
-Marty

own/drive it because you like the car. you're not going to make any money on this thing, the mileage is too high and Rx-7's have not proven to be "collector cars" in the traditional sense.

OR Tranny is in question, not the car

Sorry for any confusion, but I do intend on keeping the car and driving it a lot for fun but my question is whether or not to keep the EXTRA tranny that comes with the car.

The tranny on these cars usually last a long time. Because of this, the value of a used transmission is very low. There is just too much supply (from rusted out cars, wrecked ones, etc) and not enough demand for them to have much value. Don't expect to get more than about $100 for it. Even then, it might take some time to sell it.

If you have the space, I would probably just hold onto it. You may need it someday or you might be able to get a bit more cash for it in the future.

Where in oregon are you? If you are in need of help, there is an rx7 specialist by me that works on, builds and races rx7s. He is in Puyallup and the name is "Jeffs Automotive" If interested send me a message and I will hook you up with him.

BTW: I'm a native Oregonian too. Grew up near Medford and spent several years in Corvallis (OSU). On the East Coast now.
