84 choke pull problems

The automatic choke releaes on my 84-7 is free moving at all times. i know it is an electronic module that controls the pull lever. is this a item that can be repaired or does it just need replaced?

ok i figured it out. the choke cable had broken off up inside the housing. took me about 30 min to figure out how to get it out of the dash... lol it turns out there is a screw that holds on the knobb. after i figured that out it was a breeze to get out. now its time to head to the wreckin yard.

fixed?

Hey man, did you ever get this repaired? I just picked up an '81 with the same issue. How big of a PITA was it to fix?

ya i ended up just replacing the whole under dash unit with one from my local wrecking yard. it wasn't too hard of a fix. just make sure you remember where the wires are at when your under there.

I pulled the old one out last night. What a huge PITA! I ordered a new unit off ebay for $50 with shipping. I probably paid too much, but no time to run all the way to a junkyard.

You mention wires. There was only one plug connected to my choke unit. Are there others I should know about?

I should probably take some pictures of putting this all back together and post on here. I sure wish there was an easier way to fish that thing over the top of the heater air tube.
