Question 82 12a rx7 fuel pump replacement questions

I have a 82 12a RX-7, and I am need to replace the fuel pump. My question is, would it be a good idea to just go with a aftermarket fuel pump that is rebuildable or go with stock? If I can go with a aftermarket one, what should the psi be at, and the pump rated for in gph? Would a Mallory 4070LP work? Thanks.

go aftermarket - something that can flow 70+. get a pump, regulator and gauge. set the pressure according to what the car wants.

if i recall, i think mine was good at about 4 psi with my Carter pump. whenever you get your parts installed, you could start there. you'll see what it likes and doesn't like when you start tuning it.

as far as i know 4 psi is too much for a stock engine. i run 2.5-3 psi. and its more than enough

i have the carter parts # i used and the holley low psi regulator with a good gauge GL its not hard, and while your at it add a filter under the hood as well as the factory located one before the pump underneath the drivers side

thanks

I do have a in line see through filter before the carb, I also changed out the fuel filter after the pump about 2 months ago. I probably should change the one before the pump. The reason I'm changing the pump out is I think its dying and/or is adequate for the car, its some weird aftermarket pump the guy had on their prior to me buying the car. As for the pressure regulator a return pressure regulator would be best right? And all I do is run a extra line back to the regulator?

And yes it may not be that hard but, I've never delt with a carbbed car ever prior to this car, and two I've never had to deal with fuel system stuff before. Kinda a noob still lol.
