4 or 6 port carb'd 13B?

Hey,

as from my previous post, I am fitting a 13B into my Opel Kadett.

I have 2 engines, an overheated 13BT from a FD and a efi 13B from a FC. The FC wasn't running when I got it either. To be honest it seems to be making compression but the injectors are shot.

Anyhow, from previous posts i gather that the 6 port engine is better for porting as there is more material to maintain strength in the housings. For this reason I am going with the 6 port engine as I do plan on porting it down the line. Am I right that the 6 port engine is better suited for porting? Also, the engine has a mechanical distributor so I will run with this.

Secondly, since I'm carbing the engine, I have been looking on getting a 48 IDA carb but will this carb be suited to the engine in standard form and in several months when I port the engine (I know I will have to re-jet it again then)?

Any info is appreciated lads.

Cheers
Dan.

The 6 port engine is typically considered worse for porting, since the stock ports are already huge.

What are your power goals? What is the use for the car?

Oh right, I got it wrong so.

The car will just be used for road with some odd track days. Want decent power to be honest. The car will be very light so something in the region of 200 brake and I would be happy.

Is 200 possible on carbs while still having an everyday driveable engine?

Again I plan on keeping the engine standard initially then porting in a few months once I get more knowledge.

Cheers

I am running a 6 port with all stock ports, stock lower manifold with block off plates, and a dellorto 48. It makes good power for street driving and would be a good match for the application your using it for.

48 IDA is a good choice and can be used on any application stock port to pport. Easy to rejet and parts are easily accessible. I used to daily drive my rx3 until gas prices went up. And yes, 4port is better to use

In this case, I'd suggest 4 port as well. Use the high compression rotors from the 6 port in the 4 port engine, assuming the irons/housings are not warped from overheating. Street port the secondaries and exhaust.

I will make a high compression 4 port engine from the 2 engines so. Juts to confirm, the secondaries are the 2 end plates?

Would I be right in saying that a N/A 13B engine, a 6 port would flow more air then a 4 port, or is that crazy talk?

Cheers
