Restrictor plate, why not?

I've been doing some searching and I am at a loss, why do these get such a bad reputation? The main argument I've seen against them is "Its a cheap solution, you should never go cheap with these cars". True to a point, but oddly for the same reason I'm going to be willing to shell out more for a PFC instead of a piggy-back, I am willing to spend less on a restrictor plated dp + mp than going dp + cat. The PFC is a better unit, and it is worth the price, while at the end of the day a cat is just a $400 (or more) exhaust restriction. For those saying the stock cat is fine (meaning free), take a look at prices of downpipes vs dp + mp combos and the latter is cheaper for more product (and I can confirm at least the MR product fits and is of decent quality).

Am I missing something completely, or...?
