3rd gen RX7 Blue Smoke Startup

When I first startup the car there is blue smoke that comes out for about 5 seconds then disappears, followed 20 seconds later by thin white smoke which hangs around until the car gets warm. It’s currently 75 degrees outside and the car has almost 120k miles on it on the original motor. Rebuild time?

Sounds like a little seepage through the oil control rings. As for the white smoke its probably just condensation. I would do a pressure test on the cooling system. if it checks out I'd probably just run it as long as compression numbers still look good. Rebuilding is never a bad idea though for a 25 year old engine.

Or a leaking OMP nozzle or a PCV issue or a few other things. If neither symptom worsens I wouldn’t lose a lot of sleep. Just keep an eye on fluids.

Based on mileage, it's probably due for a rebuild. Do a compression check and coolant pressure test to see how close you are to needing one
