2nd gen short circuit, no start/stalling

I have a 2nd gen rx7, the guy I bought the car from wired a radiator fan to the battery. If the battery was plugged in, the fan was on. For a few months I was able to wire in a switch however it recently failed and I had to redo the work. Upon trying to rewrite the fan I must have done something wrong because my wires started to melt, I disconnected the wires hoping it would stop however a wire got red hot and started welding itself to a metal component. I quickly unplugged the negative terminal and then, no start. I tried to jump start it however nothing. Next day I took a look at some stuff and replaced the battery, now after trying to start for about 5 seconds the car will start and stay on for about 3-5 seconds. All the lights work, fan works, retractors work. I’m assuming I short circuited something? I also noticed when my key was in the ignition the car would beep twice then pause for a few seconds, and repeat. That beeping however does not always happen, when I tried to take a video of it, it didn’t beep anymore. Maybe I blew my alternator, or security system but not 100% sure. Where should I be looking next? Also I replaced all fuses except the main fuse which I will be replacing soon.

Make sure the fan is wired up using a fuse and a relay. If wires are melting, you don’t have a fuse and probably don’t have a relay either.

Replace the main fuse if blown. Check to see what works and what doesn’t.

Current fan wiring sounds like a huge electrical fire waiting to happen.

does your efan even pull enough air to be comparable or better than the stock clutch fan? The go-to efan years ago was to run a Ford Taurus efan, which I believe pulled 2600cfm, correct me if I’m wrong. A worthy efan will pull a good amount of current, usually fuses 30-40amp, and will need an higher amperage alternator to keep up.

yeah I get it, stock parts are hard to find, and more money to dump into a car. I’ve been down the path of choosing cheap efans and they sucked at pulling enough Cfm’s and I tore them out within a day, reinstalled the stock clutch fan until I got a proper efan setup.

just bringing up the question of is your efan worth running, and is it worth the electrical hassle.
