24 hours of LeMons 87 coupe
Hey guys I wanted to post this in the race forum but its my first thread and you need 5 posts to start a thread.
Ive owned 2 different N/A 2nd gens and loved them both. Both were streetcars and no problems.
Now we have an 87 N/A for the racetrack- it will be competing in the "not quite 12 hours of Sebring" and 24 Hours of LeMons races in Florida. It has 55xxx original miles and no rust, what-so-ever. It smells of rat urine.
My question concerns the fuel. Ive always heard to run 87 octane to avoid carbon buildup in the combustion chambers. IIRC I even remember reading to run 87 octane in the factory turbo models, if not modified. But that doesnt pertain to my question, so we wont discuss the turbo.
Now obviously a car on the race track is going to heat up substantially more, so should I run a higher octane? also, are there any suggestions on ignition timing?
Thanks for the help

ok thanks. do you roadrace? I just want to make sure, im the only person on this crew that isnt afraid of a rotary, and I dont want to lose trust by blowing a motor on the first race b/c of low octane.
my intuition still tells me 87, like you said, but I just want to be absolutely sure, you know?
