2001 RX7 FD - Limp Mode Issue! Help needed
Hi All!
I have recently imported a 2001 Rx7 FD3s RZ into Australia last week and had the car go into limp mode on the 2nd day. I have followed some of the instructions that other members have suggested in the other threads.
Oil & oil filter change, reset ECU by removing battery for 15minutes. Plug it back in and the car was running again and a lot smoother than when I first got the vehicle. The engine was running well and had no issues for the next 6 days.
On the 7th day since the previous issue, this morning the vehicle has gone into limp mode again, went for a drive last night but did not do anything out of the norm and did not push the car to the limit either. Just a relaxing cruise to enjoy the car. My car is back on Limp mode and this time even trying the ECU reset this morning did not work.
Spoke to a mechanic and he thinks it is a bit strange, initially he mentioned it could be a faulty solenoid. However being able to drive the vehicle for 6 days without any issues he is doubtful that it is the solenoid. Will be bringing the vehicle into the workshop on Thursday and was hoping I could figure something out before then.
I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this issue

The last FD to be legally imported to North America was in 1995 and an OBD 1 system. Not sure about your car. You'll have to pull the codes to find out what's causing limp. Limp is designed to protect the engine in the event of a failure with something MAZDA considered critical. It pulls timing and fuel if vacuum isn't seen by the MAP sensor. fdrx7.com may have some locals to you with better insight.

Potentially damaged wiring? I had a very similar issue that occurred sporadically, turned out to be a bit of solder that had come off causing only intermittent dislodging.
It did cost me £340 in fault-finding fees to find a 5p bit of solder though...

Again, not familiar with the later cars, but it didn't cost anything to pull CEL codes on the OBD 1

Hi All!
Thank you for the feed back
The check engine light does not come on. However what the car is doing was diagnosed as Limp mode, I hope this makes sense. (No power over 3k RPM, and if you try to step on the accelerator a little bit more the power drops off and feels like the vehicle is about to stall)
I will be bringing the car into the mechanics workshop on Thursday and hopefully it is nothing major.
Will keep everyone posted.
