2 VIN #'s on car?

so..... my plaque says one vin and the actual chassis (half way across firewall) says another vin. seems odd to me? car is a 92, production date on chassis says (decoded Dec 28, 1991) the other vin comes up February 7, 1992.

I'm confused lol.

Sounds like a box to me... If the one on your dash matches your title but not the one on the firewall, great chances are the car has been boxed...

Doesn't sound good, i'd say the one that is stamped is the right one, little hard to fake that, the sticker on the other hand could be transferred.

I'd run a carfax on both vins, i wouldn't be surprised if one of them shows up the car is destroyed or worse, stolen.

OH, is it a right hand drive? You may have the jap vin and the US VIN, hence why they are different

Thats if thats how it works, i'm not 100% sure, never imported a car before

Ive owned 5 imports before (right hand drives) but this is my first Rx7 and it is right hand drive. Previously I've never seen a second vin or chassis code or anything, when registering my vehicle its the same vin as used in Japan, ill have to look at some friends rx7's and see because it seems quite odd. the $ on the firewall (punched in) not the one on the plate is quite low numbered, i believe it is roughly FD3S-100900. my plaque on the firewall is roughly FD3S-103147. those are just guess numbers as I'm not home to check but thats what i think they were.

it could be us vin and jap vin. i think fc's are the same way being us and jap are different. for the fc us vins are fc33 and jap is fc3s i believe. so the fd could be somewhat similar. i could be wrong so someone correct me if im wrong, but i'm pretty sure your safe. couldn't hurt to make sure though.

Yea it just doesn't make sense to have two valid vin's with the same amount of digits. I'll have to look at some other local rx7's and go from there. Also I'll double check the import papers or at least what I can find on it. Thanks for the replys guys, much appreciated!

Definitely suspicious. Your VIN can be found on the driver's doorjamb, firewall stamping, firewall plaque (riveted to firewall) and dash plaque (also riveted on)

Write down everything you see at each location

I know on some cars, the VIN can be stamped on the frame, in the middle of the car. Not sure how true this is for RX7's, but I've seen it on other vehicles as well. That'd be another good place to check. If you're still feeling unsafe, contact an importer and they can tell you whats up with that. Rivsu is a respectable importer that you could ask. Keep us updated on this btw, I kinda want to see where this leads to.

I know of 4 vins on an FC...maybe they are similar on an FD(dunno, you can check locations though)
1:inner drivers door body panel.(left side US and CDN model, not sure on Japanese car)
2: dash VIN
3 plakard on passenger side firewall(like a metal plate with the vin stamped on it)
4:actual firewall itself.
