1st Question

I have read many threads about flooding on this site and really that is my only tech. question at this point.

I'm trying to solve an occasional flooding issue. Sometimes hot or cold, it will flood and I will need to remove the plugs, clean off the fuel & turn the car over to blow it out. Usually after I put them back it starts right up, but smokes alot until it clears out (more in high idle) The smoke is grey/lt blue and burns the hell out of your eyes lol. The car always seems a little rich to me. It seems to happen more if I have been working on something that draws power for an extended time (interior lights on, trunk light on, fan motor running, raido etc.) It always seems to be a little sluggish to turn (like starter draws a lot, even with the new Batt.) So, having read alot about this type of thing I haven't found anyone with the exact same issue, but many with similar issues. I removed and cleaned up the BAC having read something that sounded similar in nature (I was also dipping RMP when headlights were turned on, fan motor turned on etc.) it would always recover the rpms, but it was sluggish to do so. It still sags for a second now, but seems much improved after cleaning.

If anyone has a few "from the Gut" ideas on the flooding issue, knowing I have read and tried a lot of ideas from other posts, I'd apprecieate hearing them.

Thanks,
-Slam

i'm guessing ur referring to an '88 rx7. i'd suspect the injectors r leaking which would require sending the out for cleaning and rebuilding.

yes 88 rx7 vert n/a. I have been leaning toward leaking injector (s) as well thanks for your reply. Luckily, a friend of mine owns his own fuel injector service, so it's cheap for me, so I reasoned that even if that is not the issue, it couldn't hurt to have clean, re-built injectors.

Stopped by Linder Injection Services this morning & dropped off my injectors for reconditioning. I triend about ... a lot of things suggested and truly think it is the injectors causing the problem. ( i had a lot of fun getting to the primary injectors), and after seeing how easy it is to break all of the very brittle Vac lines, have elected to replace them. I don't think the primarys had ever been removed (155,000 miles)

Side note, I finished converting hard top tailights to fit the Vert, I liked the style better and they came with the car. I did a pretty fantastic job, and they look great... well worth the effort.

Consider a new fuel filter and a set of plugs and wires when you get your injectors back. Clean all your factory grounds too, maybe even add some if you have some heavier gauge wire available. Battery to chassis; chassis to engine; engine to battery.

Oh, and in the future, it's helpful if you can include some key words in the thread title regarding your question. In this case, something about "flooding" might have generated more responses and maybe even help someone else in a subsequent search.

Thanks for the reply. I did actually install a new filter, plugs and wires in preparation for the return of the injectors. I also took the opportunity to clean areas of the engine not accessible when fully assembled. Great tip on the ground wire, I had not thought ablou that, but this would be a good time for that.

As for the key words, I get what you are saying, I like being helped and like it when me getting help, helps others. I actually wanted a limited response, because I didnt want to go a million directions at once if that makes sense. I read so many post on flooring, and the symptoms all sounded fairly similar, that I wanted to focus energy on the "Gut Feeling" of an experienced few willing to respond. In the future I will cast the net a little more broad. Thanks again.
