Rotaries suppose to whine?

Are rotaries suppose to "whine"? While the car is under a load it's pretty loud, push in the clutch and the sound decreases dramatically but I do still hear the rear end but it's faint. Any idea's?

Thank You,

No they aren't supposed to whine. It sounds like it's coming from your tranny or differential.

It whines in all gears, gets a bit louder in fourth and fifth especially going up a hill. (I live in the mountains)

It's going to be the trans or the diff.

Synchros don't whine. Gears can whine. Bearings can whine.

Change the gear oil on the trans and diff. The one with lots of metal fines is the whiner.

I would suggest checking the fluid levels in the gearbox and diff.. replace them with good oils if they haven't been done in a while, it can help extend the life and also help in reducing any whining.

The best way to get rid of the whining..leave the girlfriend at home.

I would change the fluid as recommended^^...It's most likely a bearing...are you getting any harmonic vibration?

Has anyone taken off the front pulley hub off the e-shaft recently?
