MA 1st gen gold wheels?

Hello - as I've been collecting 1st gen RX-7 parts for my newly-acquired '84 SE, I've come across a brand new set of wheels that look like the style used in the '79 model, but have gold centers. I read somewhere where they might be wheels for the limited edition 1980 Leather Sport (LS) model.

Just curious - did these gold-centered wheels have any other applications? Any idea how much they might be worth to someone? They won't fit on my '84, and if they are truly 1980 LS wheels, they might be valuable given the limited run. Or maybe they are a lot more common than that?

Thanks!

Yeah - pretty sure they're OEM. I attached a pic. According to Wikipedia, the 1980 LS limited edition had gold wheels - might be these ones?

those r what's known as waffle wheels. they came on the SA but were not originally gold but usually ppl will paint them gold when they refurbish them.

here's one of many threads from searching "waffle wheels."

I don't think these are refurbs - they are still in the Mazda boxes, and are pristine. I guess they could be perfect refurbs - don't know.

MA NOS set of 1980 Leather Sport wheels

Finally got the wheels home - from all I can tell, they are a NOS set of wheels for a 1980 Leather Sport. Part #9965-23-5530 5.5 JJX13. Beautiful set of wheels, in perfect shape.

They won't fit my GSL-SE, so I'll either have to find them another home, or buy an LS to put them on ;-).

excellent find! it's possible they did come in gold but all the ones i've seen weren't. yeah that bolt pattern will be 4x110 and the se is 4x114.3. if u got them fairly cheap u should be able to make some money on them. and they'll fit any non-se model 1st gen.
