1995 FD knock problem

I have Power Fc and whenever I step on the gas the Exhaust heat light comes on and I see my knock LVL is very high. I have been driving this car for 2 years and My motor still good. Just little bit of rev on neutral the knock is over 60 percent.

I am just wondering how to check Timing on this car. Should I retard timing with power fc Edit and see if know is still high? is there a way to check my timing is ok?

+1 ^ how much knock is "acceptable"??? I also have a power fc, but my FD is '93 and non sequential stock turbos. I've seen my 'knock' read as high as 78. Are you surprised it's still running? (as a newbie to rotary, not sure how serious this is. I do know that detonation can destroy apex seals and/or dent rotors/ is 78 dramatic?)

And...If thread starter briancha was to try lowering knock by retarding timing, would he start with the leading or trailing spark plugs?

If you log the knock reading in relation with other parameters like boost level then you'll get a more complete picture about the knock being too high or not. Checking the spark plugs is good idea though.

Both - in order to keep the same difference between leading and trailing timing (which would be around 10 degrees apart during boost and may be little higher like 10-15 degrees apart during cruising)

seems to make sense, keeping the two plugs timed the same in relation to each other and reducing them both...while the engine's not running, of course. Also, I was recently told by a tuner that 78 is not necessarily 'high' and that it depends on other setting parameters in your tune (I beleive is similar to the way he put it) I never actually heard a knock, but my "high knock" was not a constant continual thing...more like a flash I only ever noticed by setting the handheld to display max readings. A continual knock reading in streaming phase would tell me I should stop doing what I'm doing (i.e. let off the throttle), park it and search out potentially problematic easy fix things like spark plugs and things I could fix, If it doesn't remedy or can't find a problem, I'd get a tune. But this is a 'newbie' opinion
