1993 RX-7 Engaging Noise Moving Forward

Hello, I have this noise that happens when I start the car up from cold and slowly start to move forward. It is some sort of mechanism that turns on or engages. I have looked all over and cannot find out what it is. At this point I am just curious to know the source. Thanks.

Internet diagnosis is often only worth what you paid for it. But details like..........
*Description of exactly what kind of noise your hearing.
*Does the noise change with engine speed? With vehicle speed?
*Where in the car does it seem to be coming from?
*What major modifications, if any, does you car have?
......are helpful.

It is kinda like the noise when the headlights turn on (motor noise). It only happens when the car first starts to move forward out of the garage. It sounds like it is a normal noise but I am unsure what it is. Nothing is wrong with the car. The car has no mechanical after market parts and has under 5000 miles on it.

Well, not extremely helpful. The first thing that comes to mind is the air pump/smog pump. The airpump only engages at relatively low rpm with a little 'click' followed by what could be called a slight 'motor noise'. It would also be most audible at cold start and while traveling at low speed. The pump itself could be causing the noise, but a loose or leaking hose connection could also make strange noises too. Airpumps don't fail very often and it shouldn't be really loud when engaged. With the windows up and the hood closed, I'd think it should be almost inaudible. But I suppose if your car is completely stock, then you might hear it alot easier than most of us with aftemarket exhaust systems.

While your at it, make sure all the hoses are tight to the airbox too. Including both the Charge relief valve (CRV) and Blow-off valve (BOV). Check that the top half of the box is sealed tightly against the bottom half. During the inspection you might notice a hose leading from the front driver's side of the top airbox downward. It then loops under the airbox and ends without connecting to anything else. It's a vent hose and should be like that. Sometimes, if the box or hoses leak I've heard them make wierd noises from the positive pressure that comes from off-throttle of the turbos....again that would be most audible at low speed.
If you don't know the location of these components, it's the perfect time to download a copy of the FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL from the 3rd Gen. stickys and look them up. They will all be under the engine chapter.

Yea, this is hard to explain what is going on. I though it was just a normal noise with these cars but it obviously isn't. I did the air pump removal and have a Pettit Racing intake. I also have a Pfc and Pettit intercooler. I think it might be something related to the AWS.

Haha. Those are not "mechanical" parts In other words, those cannot cause the noise.

I asked "what major modifications". You gave some answer I apparently needed to parse.
And you don't consider an airpump "mechanical"?
Some of us spend time trying to help. You can't even spend the time to give a straight answer to a simple question. "In other words", good luck with the noise

"pillow mounts" or whatever they are called. They are supposed to fail all of the time.
