1991 Covert. Radio/tape/CD
Does anyone have any idea on how to get the radio repaired or replaced? No one will repair them. Apparently circuit boards are no longer available.

Depends on the fault. Any real electronics repair shop should have no problem repairing the radio. But these are getting few and far between as electronics are typically throw away items these days. And the cost might be more than you are willing to pay.

Hi Aaron, I've tried a local and a national radio repair shop. The national wouldn't even let me send it to them and the local reapir shop charged me $20 to examine and and said it couldn't be repaired. The shop had a replacement from a later modle Mazda with green lite dials. I wasn't interested.
I bought one on ebay and it was DOA. I also brought that one to the repair shop and after another $20 it was likewise not repairable.

Check out this post for a very cool revitalization of the stock CD/cassette unit. According to the OP, work done by factoryradioservice.com...not cheap, but good.

For me, stock look plus an AUX or ipod input is a good combination. The input update makes up for the late 80's CD limitations. If I remember well, my 87 T2 CD player wasn't very 'road bump' friendly even when I got the car in '91. The Blaupunkt head unit I put in my vert didn't hold up very well either and didn't fit the 'almost double-DIN' space too well. It's been a while since I looked, but at the time, all the double DIN units were too deep to fit.

Hey guys, thanks. I will try factoryradioservice. I want to keep car stock. Both my original and purchased units are in pristine condition other than not working. I don’t care about the cassette payer and hardly use the CD player. I need the Radio. I’ll keep you apprised.

Ah I see. I figured you wanted to use a CD player/I-pod hook up. That's my main reason for going to an aftermarket headunit. In all my Rx-7s Ive had I also chose to run all new speaker wire to every speaker from the headunit. Good luck
