I miss my Camaro :( - still have it, should fix that instead of this....

hey, i have the same car an 88 mazda rx7 convertible, and when i turn the wipers on i hear a (grrr) kinda noise coming from the wiper motor, and they won't return to their starting spot.
The wipers stay where i turned them off

question..is this the correct meter I need to check TPS
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Digital-LCD-Multimeter-XL-830L-Voltmeter-Ammeter-Ohmmeter-OHM-VOLT-Tester-/200955431023?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ec9e0886f

FLSaffire 06-26-14 09:18 AM

my local garage will not touch my car as it has a rotary motor! another place in town are asking $100 just to look at it, so I need to adjust TPS myself, I saved info on how to do this from this site (thanks for posting!) now to collect items needed

FLSaffire 06-26-14 09:35 AM

or is a TPS tester a better way then a meter?
Since I'm not a mechanic do you think this (below) is a better adjustment option for me? do get it right
http://www.banzai-racing.com/TPS_adjustment.htm

lduley 06-26-14 09:47 AM

All you need is a voltmeter, you warm the car up, drive it to get it hot, than adjust

But, from what you've told us, your OMP is probably causing most of your running issues

FLSaffire 06-26-14 10:31 AM

thank you

FLSaffire 06-26-14 11:06 AM

thank you all for your help, scheduled an appointment for in the morning to get this sorted, I'll update upon their findings...

FLSaffire 06-27-14 01:02 PM

2 garages later and finally someone who knows this car, have to bring it back for further diagnosis on Tuesday, but he said this year is notorious for faulty OMP, really expensive, but hoping once he checks the ECU, etc that it's less complicated. One good thing, actually 2 good things, neither shop charged me a dime and the one I have an appointment with took 2 mins to adjust a belt, so no more squeal, but needs replacing, yeah!! 6 mechanics later, thank you Jesus!

satch 06-27-14 01:12 PM

If need be find a used OMP and do not purchase a brand new one.

FLSaffire 06-27-14 01:49 PM

absolutely, couldn't afford it anyways! funny thing they (the shop) just sold one they had 3 weeks ago for $300 he said.. so I'll see what the verdict is next week, have a great weekend!

misterstyx69 06-28-14 07:19 AM

$300 bucks???

you can get 5 of them on HERE for that price.
Shop around man..nothing worse than getting taken because you are a new guy that "needs it now".

FLSaffire 06-28-14 09:33 AM

thank you for the heads up, hope I don't need it at all, but time will tell

It sounds like you will

question- is the oil meter pump position sensor separate from the oil meter pump itself?, sorry I guess I could look this up myself.

FLSaffire 07-01-14 02:54 PM

I guess like the AFM it is one in the same, mechanic found a couple wires not grounded, they say the only code that is testing or reading is #20 (oil metering position sensor) trying to locate one to have sent to them so they can replace the bad one.

FLSaffire 07-09-14 07:05 PM

update, picked up my car today, OMP has been replaced, so the limp mode issue is solved, but now the car stalls every time it stops at a light or stop sign, (all the way home) they say we need to replace the engine wiring harness

lduley 07-10-14 09:06 AM

Stalling should have nothing to do with the wire harness. Have you gone through and done the idle relearn according to the FSM?

satch 07-10-14 09:19 AM

And you could try bumping the idle a bit and checking the BAC and possibly the air supply valve.

FLSaffire 07-10-14 02:34 PM

I'm not a mechanic, I only know what they said, interesting the air supply valve is mentioned here, as they said they replaced this re: compression issue? the confusion continues

FLSaffire 07-11-14 12:56 PM

Well I turned the idle up alittle and so far it's staying started, did find out he did turned it down (mechanic), so hopefully this will do the trick. I installed the wiper motor, half of that problem solved, still need the relay or switch since it doesn't go down in correct position as before, but at least it has some wiper speed low and med for these Florida afternoon storms

FLSaffire 07-14-14 09:18 AM

New problem guys, trying to lower the convertible top, but apparently the parking brake isn't working, preventing it from doing so,.any suggestions?

satch 07-14-14 01:18 PM

Using the advanced search feature found this:

owners manual states that top will not work if e- brake isn't engaged. e-brake isn't working, as I've tried it. Went through the repair manual and tightened the adjusting screw on right side of e-brake handle, but still not working. My daughters b/f replaced the rear calipher on one of the back wheels quite awhile ago so I'm thinking maybe he didn't do the e-brake cable correctly. I guess the next step is to jack it up and have a look at this part. Haven't tried lowering the convertible top since before this was done.
