MB 1989 S5 TII Oil in Intake Runners

As the title says......I have oil pooling in the lower secondary intake runners only...primaries are clean.

If the UIM is on, the oil will leak out between UIM and block and pool on ground...if UIM removed , there is oil sitting in the bottom of the secondary intake runners.

See the attached pic...this is not my actual engine....just a pic I grabbed to show where the oil is.

UIM is torqued to spec and there is a gasket.

I have new oil injectors. Vacuum lines on the injectors are hooked up.

Lots of crankcase ventilation

No oil in throttle body, so oil definitely "appearing" after the TB

Somebody suggested turbo seals are blown but I dont see how oil would get in intake runners from turbo....

I found a few posts similar to this a few years back after searching but the responses seemed to imply this was normal and quite common.....I am not sure Mazda would sell a car with oil dripping out the manifold.!!??!! but I could be wrong....

Do any of the engine re-builders on the list have any ideas as to what causes this and what the solution might be??

it is rather normal for a small amount of oil to accumulate in those runners. as for it being normal to leak onto the ground, no, because your manifold is supposed to be sealed, if it's not then your intake leak is the problem.

it's mostly an issue of driving the car like a granny and not using the secondary ports and high revs to keep them cleaned out. a failing turbo carbon seal could add to it, as would excessive blowby from the engine, but personally i don't assume there is an issue by the fact that there is oil where you pointed.
