1989 RX-7 FC Convertible Automatic HELP
Hey, how's it going guys! First time doing a thread so bare with me.
I currently I have a 12,000 mile S5 automatic vert and I feel like I am almost right there with being done on having her fully ready to go. ( Yes I plan on doing a manual swap at some point ) Originally found as a barn find over by the ocean so in the process of doing a refresh build. I've become pretty knowledgeable on these cars from the past couple of months after working on the car but there are some things that I am still running into that just doesn't make sense to me.
The car holds an idle strong, it jumps up to 2,000 rpm's for the first 10 secs and then drops to about 1000 to a normal idle. It kind of drives okay. I have gotten the car up to 80MPH on the background for a few minutes when it finally decided it wanted to move.
The issue that I am trying to solve is when I put my foot down to the gas pedal it has a weird sweet spot to where it will catch if I barely put my foot on the gas and it will move. It won't move like a normally car if I pedal to the metal on the gas. Park gear is good, neutral is fine, and reverse is amazing. Low, Drive, and Second is where I run into the weird sweet spot thing on the gas pedal.
Is this a trans, tps, throttle body, back pressure type of issue or something else? Completely at a blockade and would hate to sell a true 12,000 mile car if it turned out to be something small. Everything is completely 100% stock besides the exhaust system being straight piped at the cats.
The work that I've done to it:
- Spark Plug
- Spark Plug Cables
- Battery
- Automatic Trans Oil Flush
- Changed the old exhaust system to a portion of oem one ( no cats, straight pipe to the stock y-pipe )
- Air box filter
Any sort of direction or info would be greatly appreciated. If there are any mechanics or people in California to help out with the putting me in the right direction this would be awesome.
I can provide pictures or videos to make it easier for visual representation too.
