1988 rx7 convertible
I'm currently ( slowly ) but surely rebuilding my 88 convertible, I am having a problem with my stareo turning off while driving , I'm thinking it's because it's using to much power with heater and lights on? Could that be it?

More info please.
Is the stereo original or aftermarket?
does it blow a fuse or does it cut out but stay on.
Shut right off and then come back on?

Bad connection.
You need to check the wiring to the unit.
If your heater, etc shut down TOO when this happens then I would be looking at something else, but it sounds like you have a loose wire to the stereo itself.
