Question 1988 GXL throtle delay...

ok so, i own a 1993 rx-7 r1, and i just sold my old 1988 rx-7 gxl to my friend. after a couple days of him owning it ,he got on the throttle a bit and after that it started to do something strange... basically when its ideling and you give it throttle it drops RPM and almost kills the motor. though if you genttly give it some gas it will climb rpm ok. once you have the gas down it holds rpm fine but anytime you give it medium gas it drops rpm and then comes back... also when it sits for a while and gets cold the problem seems to go away. but once it starts to get warm the problem shows up... so basically when its warmed up the throttle hesitates and the rpms drop down when you give it a regular amount of gas. the more gas you give it the more the rpm drops but then comes back up. i hope that makes since. i changed the oil recently and it has a fairly new battery. also the car has no cat and is a straigtht pipe, also it has a short ram cold air intake. i thought maybe its the fuel filter causing it. PLEASE HELP!
