1987 Rx-7 Flooding Issue. Newbie Help!
Hello, all I am a newbie to the Rx-7 forums and Rx-7's in general. This is my first post. I got my first 1987 Rx-7 about 3 months ago with about 56k original miles (according to the previous owner). This Rx-7 is a drift car. It has been stripped of all interior things and has a welded diff. It also has omp delete along with powering steering and perhaps some other things that I’m not too sure about. I’ve already been hit by the notorious flooding issue. The issue would occur when I would floor the car to redline. When I’d get close to redline the car would suddenly start breaking up and jerking. At this point, I realized the car was flooded. I then had to do the common unflooding procedure of taking out the specific fuse and cranking it a few times. The flooding while flooring went away after I changed my trailing and leading coils. However, the issue still persists when I try doing a clutch kick. Still learning how to drift, but sometimes I don’t even break traction and I just clutch kick but end up flooring the car in first gear. Immediately after those series of things the car experiences the same symptoms as before and floods. I then have to unflood the car to get it to driving properly again. I have read through previous forums on bandaid fixes and probable causes, but I just can't seem to figure it out.

- Took out the fuel injectors. Did a thorough clean by running carb cleaner through it and seeing the injectors spraying properly.
- Changed both leading and trailing coils.
- Changed spark plugs & oil change.
- Compression test. Everything checked out okay.

I know the guys that race these tend to ditch the fuel injection system entirely and go carborated. Better power and more reliable. The one thing I can think of is a fuel pressure problem, e.g., too much. Does it have a fuel pressure adjustment (my first gen does)? Sounds like as you're increasing in power it's flowing too much fuel, and maybe something needs to be backed off a little (without going lean).

i will take it that your ignition system is functioning the way it should since you mentioned changing coils, so the following is based on that assumption.
well, if you're game, you can try the NGK B_ES plugs (keep the stock heat ranges for lead and trail) and see if they improve your situation any. i started experimenting with plugs a while back when i was having flooding issues and i used the B_EV plugs, but apparently they have been discontinued now, so these seem to be the same plug with a different material for the electrode. the actual replacement for the ones i used to use are the BR_EIX plugs, but i'm not sure what your budget is and i can't guarantee that the plugs will solve/help YOUR problems so i figure start with the cheaper versions and if it helps, then you can get the iridiums later on if you want.
also, see if you can get a timing light and see where you are, too.

Yes, my ignition system I believe is fine. I will take these other spark plugs into account next time I change the plugs. Any other possibilities or things I can try?
