IL 1986 not heater not working. Some Advice would be grateful

I have a 1986 FC, we bought the car in October when it was still warm out, and didn't really worry too much about the heat. The previous owner stated he took the AC out but the heat worked fine. When winter came we tried using the heat and It unfortunately does not work.

So we've been trying to figure out the problem. So far we have found nothing wrong with the system. Any advice on what we should check?

Also, It may be irrelevant but recently the ADD COOLANT light has been acting up. When idling the light will appear and will stay on until I drive the car for 2-3 minutes and if I come to a stop it will appear again.

And advice would be helpful and I will tell you what we have tried already if anyone replies.

Sorry also If this was discussed in a previous post. I did try to locate something, but i could not find an exact match.

Thanks

Well if you need coolant the heat will not be sufficient.

Well, I checked the coolant levels, and everything was perfectly fine. I checked for leaks just in case though and saw no leaks.

Also, the car does produce air through the vents, just cold though.

Thinking it might be a broken thermostat?
