1983 mazda rx 7 Lima OH

Hello rx7 club. I am having trouble with my 1983 mazda rx7 starting up. It has been sitting for about a year or so and I charged up the battery and it almost starts but not completely starts. This car only has 36,000 miles on it and is in pretty good shape. I just do not have anyone around here that can look at it cuz they don't know how to fix a rotary engine. So if anyone has any suggestions of what to do I'd appreciate it. If you need more info, I can send a youtube video of what is going on. Thanks

Eric

If the engine cranks over but does not catch, I would first assume that you may have flooded it by trying to start it so much. Look up the unflooding procedure.

BEFORE you do this however, answer me this: Did you drain out the old fuel from your gas tank? Year old fuel has almost certainly lost its potency. Not to mention that your car should be carbureted. Old fuel left to sit in the carb may have turned to varnish and clogged something. Replace your fuel and clean the carb if necessary.

I would also verify that the spark plugs are producing spark...

Good luck.

You need to make sure you drain out the old gas. make sure the tank isn't rusted to hell n back. if it is, your filters are probably clogged from pumping rusty/jelly fuel. If thats good make sure your actually get good fuel pressure. If the WHOLE fuel system checks out o.k. See if your getting spark.

I'd just replace the plugs....doesn't cost that much. Might want to get someone to pull the car to jump start it..maybe getting it to run will help.
