1983 Fb draining batteries

I recently bought an 83 1st gen (my 2nd 7). I was told by the guy that it drains the battery after sitting for a day or two unless you disconnect the ground. I was going to hunt down the problem after I did some emissions removal. Well I forgot to disconnect the ground and the battery died. So I threw it on the charger and let it charge for a few hours, go to start it and the starter won't turn over. I even tried using a jump pack and it still will not start. What could the problem be? This is with 2 different batteries by the way. 1 is a newer interstate battery and the other is an old one from my other 7, both give the same result.

Do you think its the starter draining the battery as well? I mean it tries to turn over but just seems to bind up.

I agree I'd R n R the starter. After that, go from there. If you still having problems with the battery draining then you can have a few problems. One the alternator is not charging you battery, 2 you have a very large parasitic draw, or 3 you have a short to ground some where.

start with a flow chart and work your way through the tests.
