Question 1982 rx7 series 2 Aus model low beam headlights

hi guys just got a problem with my 7, the previous owner had the stereo wired into the lowbeam circuit for the headlights, i decided this was a bad idea as it would cut out at any volume over "10". So i ran fresh wires for the stereos power and one to the ignition barrel so that it would come on with the accessorys, but now my lowbeam headlights will not turn on.. which has got be baffeled since replacing the bulbs (H4 90/100w halogen ones) and using a test light to test all the plugs in the headlight system i am aware of, so im looking for someone to give a rundown of common causes of this problem(if there are any) and possibly a wiring diagram for the series 2 headlight systems.. any help is greatly appreciated as i am trying to get the old girl on the road sometime this week.

fuse, grounds, wires. do your high beams work? that seems like pretty high wattage lights....

yeah the old ones were way too dull and i intend on taking it up the mountains on a regular basis.. the system can handle it though.. also sorted the headlight issue but thanks for the ideas, turns out that due to the overdrawn current through the light circuit it seems that the idiot previous owner decided to put a 30Amp fuse in the light circuit to stop it blowing them so instead it melted the lowbeam connect on the back on the indicator stalk assembly(mounted on steering column) so ive since cleaned connections untill i can afford to replace them with new ones.. now shes all swoit and just waiting for the interior reassembly before she goes back out on the road.. btw quick run down of specs, its a street port 12a with 17000kms on the clock since the build(thats about 10000ish miles for the americans on here) with all poly bushes in the suspension and slightly lowered, big extracters ( they go from the engine to behind the drivers seat before becoming 1 pipe) and a 2 3/4" exhaust, 1 hotdog and 1 muffler but soon to become 2 as its just soo damn loud.. apart from that its all pretty standard.. oh and cheviot hotwires in matte black 15x6. looking at getting a sterling nikki setup next.. might try getting into the auto cross scene after a few months of cruising to work out the kinks.

Those lights are kinda heavy for the circuit you've got going IMHO. Years ago, before I put my '81 into storage, I had re-wired the lights. Essentially, the stock arrangement has the headlight power running through the switch on the turn signal stalk. If you measure the voltage at the lights, you'll find that there isn't anything close to 13.5 or even 12 volts, even when the engine is running. And the current going through the contacts is more than I'd want to see long term.

What I did was take a wire (heavy wire!) right off the alternator, into a fuse. I ran the heavy wire to the lights through a relay I added that was activated by the 'normal' wiring from the turn signal stalk. The result was full voltage at the lights and only the minor current needed for the relay going through the switch contacts.

THAT improved the light to the road immensely!
