1980 rx7 high idle problem???

Hey guys my 80 rx7 is having a high idle problem. When the car is warm, it stays at 1200 rpms and starts to sputter a little. I don't why it does it but it recently started doing this. Please help

welcome to the board.

1. get a copy of the FSM.
2. start checking for vacuum leaks.
3. if you end up not having any, then follow the procedures for setting idle mixture and idle speed.

timing is another possibility, but i would exhaust the above suggestions before considering that.

my advice would be not to assume. check for the vacuum leaks first because (a) if the car started doing this recently, it's more likely to have lost the integrity of a vacuum hose than for the mixture to spontaneously; and (b) if there is a leak and you start messing with idle mixtures, it will be much harder to find and fix the actual problem and you will open yourself up for more headaches.
