1980 Rx-7 Price help asap!

Hello everyone, my name is Drew and I’m a big Mazda fan. I’m on my 2nd Miata. I have a question on this 1980 Rx-7. How much is it worth? It’s not posted on any social media platforms such as Facebook marketplace. It’s going to be for sale through an estate sale but it isn’t available to the public yet. I pretty much have the first shot at buying it. Only thing I don’t know about it is mileage. Please read last pic for info. Thanks in advance!!

"Do not Ask for BUYING ADVICE. (NO "how much is my car worth" or "should I buy this car")"

found in this link at the top of this section:
https://www.rx7club.com/new-member-r...ction-1104089/

it's worth whatever ur willing to pay for it. research the net to see what similar 7's r selling for. bringatrailer.com(Bat) is where the most valuable ones get posted.

it really doesn't look like a 500 hp car. an original elford turbo car would be the more valuable one. this one, if low mileage, would be more valuable in original stock form. it's an SA with gslse suspension swap and probably engine from a turbo FC. i probably wouldn't give more than 4k for it. when and where will the auction be?

Price is pretty subjective. A lot depends on running condition. Without being driven for 6 years, it could need a few things that might add up to $500 -$1000 or so. Is there a specific reason it was put away?

I recognized the car as a LS (Leather Sport) before reading it in the description. FYI, it's believed that only 500 of the 2500 LS's built in 1980 were sprayed in Solar Gold, 1000 ea in Aurora White and Brilliant Black. All had the same brown leather interior. Because this is a "special model" 1st gen, many would value the car more if it was still stock, w/o all the add-on modifications.

My bad, I meant to ask what is the typical market value of this car. Unfortunately, some lies were told. I drove an hour or so to look at the car; I was let down. It had 40,000 miles and it had not been cranked since 1997. It has sat inside a nice shop all its life and had a flawless body, but I was blown away when I walked up and the price tag on it was “18k obo”. Thanks to all of you who gave me some fast info on it, I usually like to do my own research but this was a very sudden instance and needed to know if I was getting a good deal. I won’t be giving up on my hunt for a new car, unfortunately rx-7’s are hard to come by here in Alabama. In the meantime, I will be doing my research. Thanks!!

Ouch! I think they're pricing it based on the "Paul Newman's mechanic" part and the inflated power figures. It's a beautiful car though.

Can hardly believe I’m saying this, but if the engine still turns I might make them an offer based on putting it back to stock. It did say OBO. Have a soft spot for 1st Gen’s and I remember wishing I’d upgraded to that color and leather from my ‘S’ model after seeing them the complimentary subscription of “Rotary Rocket”.

If the car was in tip top condition, sorted and running there might be someone willing to drop that kind of money for this car in todays market. But the more possible issues the car has, the intrinsic value to interested buyers drops rapidly. Low to upper teens is becoming the new norm for exceptionally clean, low mile, no issue 1st Gens.

Sounds like this car is being priced like it falls into this category. Unfortunately, it hasn't been kept up in running order and has some unknown issues associated with sitting idle. Plus as I mentioned previously, the special model cars are normally de-valued when modified or altered from stock condition.

I suppose it doesn't hurt to ask for more, but considering what the car appears to be, I think the owners pricing is a little over optimistic at present. Subtract $10K and I think it makes better sense in todays market.

^At least 10k over-priced imo. Pretty much where I was at in my head for an absolute high offer for the car, as there’d be travel and transport costs on top of everything else. I would never buy a car sight-unseen.
